Bicipetal Tendinitis


In tendinitis of the shoulder usually either the bicep tendon or the rotator cuff tendon is injured or inflamed as a result of being pinched by surrounding structures of the shoulder joint.


Sign and symptoms:


• Pain that is felt in the front of the shoulder and along the bone of the upper arm.
• Level of pain typically increases when raising or lifting the arms overhead or out in front of the body
• Pain may also be felt first thing in the morning or at night
• Tenderness over the biceps tendon of the arm
• Biceps tendon may appear inflamed, red or swollen.
• The level of pain and tenderness will increase and may be felt even at rest.
• Shoulder pain; usually a dull, aching pain.


Pain Management-

• Investigation- MRI
• Medication- NSAID(non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug)


Aim of physiotherapy treatment


• To reduce pain
• To reduce inflammation and tenderness
• To reduce swelling.
• To reduce spasm.

Physiotherapy Treatment

• Reduce pain through advance modalities..
• Stretching exercises and strengthening exercises.
• Postural re-education and advices
• Precautions- to avoid overhead activities
• Mild and moderate cases of the condition often improve within some weeks of rest followed by physical therapy exercises
